About

First off, a bit of background about the title of my blog.  God’s Playground is “one of several possible English translations of an old Polish phrase, Boze Igrzysko” (God’s Playground, A History of Poland, Volume 1: The Origins to 1795 by Norman Davies, p. xv).  While not actually being born in Poland, I’m about as Polish as one can get.  Both sides of my family are from the same area in Poland and immigrated in the 1880’s.  At any and all family gatherings homemade food played a major part, hence a lifelong interest in food.  Growing up watching cooking shows on PBS really didn’t help the situation a whole lot.

The goal of this blog is to chronicle my various adventures / experiments with food.  As previously stated, I was planning on attending culinary school, but things have evolved since that original plan.  Lindz and I are moving to Rochester, MN, sometime in mid 2013.  I still plan on getting into the kitchen professionally, but for the moment school is on the back burner.  Other topics will creep in occasionally, but like I said, the primary purpose is food.

So anywho, hello world!

Cooking shows on PBS… as in Julia Child and The Galloping Gourmet?

Definitely anything that had Julia Child in it, as well as Yan Can Cook, The Frugal Gourmet, America’s Test Kitchen, and Two Fat Ladies. Granted these shows span a couple of decades, but these are the ones that I’ve tried to seek out and watch.

I haven’t tried smoking anything yet, but I found one of my Grandpa’s old smokers the last time I was at home. Next summer (when I have the space) I plan on firing it up.

      Thanks for the return visit!
